Fucking hilarious :)

jueves, noviembre 05, 2009

The second sign carries the hilarity even further: "Bitte - nicht so schnell!" is German for "Please - not so fast!" (Evidently it refers to the speed limit due to likely children presence, but the unintended double meaning is greatly amusing) ;D

Fucking sign problem! Fucking, Austria

Yes, it does exist. Here's the wikipedia entry:

"Fucking, Austria
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fucking (German pronunciation: [ˈfʊkɪŋ]) is an Austrian village in the municipality of Tarsdorf, in the Innviertel region of western Upper Austria.

The village is located 33 kilometres (21 mi) north of Salzburg, four kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the German border.

The settlement of Fucking has existed since at least 1070 and is named after a man from the 6th century called Focko. "-ing" is an old Germanic suffix indicating the people of the root word to which it is attached; thus Fucking means "(place of) Focko’s people." The village has a population of 107.

Fucking's most famous feature is a traffic sign with its name on it, beside which tourists often stop to have their photograph taken. It is a commonly stolen street sign, owing to the identical spelling to a form of the English-language profanity "fuck".Significant public funds have been spent on replacing the stolen signs.

In 2004, mainly due to the stolen signs, a vote was held on changing the village's name, but the residents voted against doing so. According to the town mayor, Siegfried Hauppl:

We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is. After all, Fucking has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr Fuck or the Fuck family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement.

In August 2005, the road signs were replaced with theft-resistant signs welded to steel and secured in concrete to prevent further chances of the sign being stolen.

TO RISK OR NOT TO RISK?

martes, noviembre 03, 2009

i'm lookin' 4 a ride back from Berlin and had a sudden idea.... There're train vouchers around in ebay that allow, if you have a ticket, to get a 2nd person with you for free. So, I was thinking, WHAT IF I just get one of those vouchers for 2-5eur, get in the train and look for someone that travels my way? I could offer 30 eur for letting me use them as the main passenger. BUT I'm travelling at night AND I'd have to find that person before the revisor comes AND I have to convice that person; would they find it ok or simply look at me as if I were crazy? The fine if it goes wrong? puff, VERY high.

Would u take this risk at all?

It would have many benefits, being able to travel at my preferred times to begin with, quicker ride, more confortable, .. BUT it does come with a risk though .. I don't know I just have the feeling it can go right although for sure I'll get A LOT of crazy looks on me... On the other hand with risk comes excitement and I've had a rather boring and hard-working week .. hmm .. so eventually it all comes back to the same, TO RISK OR NOT TO RISK?

WHO SAID I'VE TRAVELED TOO MUCH?

New York, New York

domingo, mayo 10, 2009

Yeeeeeeeeees!! I'm coming to New York! After I missed the first offer I had couldn't imagine that less than a month later I'd be buying another flight offer to NY! It's a bit more expensive (around 40 eur) but I do prefer it this way cos the flight time is less and more convinient to me. I fly over London-Heathrow and I don't have one of those long stoppovers, just 1h between both flights. I'm visiting Heathrow's new 5 Terminal, whose construction started right after I moved out of England. Actually I haven't been in Heathrow since Sep 26th 2002 ...(hardest flight ever) so it's kind of "emotional" being back there. I wish I could stop in London for a couple of days too .. it's definetely gonna be weird being just an hour away from Oxford and not visiting ..

Well, leaving "Oxford emotions" aside I'm very excited about this trip and I'm very very happy that I'm flying in September instead of June ..... all sports are on season while I'm there!!! This means I'd be able to watch Baseball, NBA, NHL and of course the american football :DDD My budget will not be enough to see all of them, but it's now sure that I won't leave USA without seeing at least one of them.

Moreover it's kind of "Festival time" in NY, there's the International Film Festival, the Comedy Club International Festival, the Musical Theatre Festival, .... all in all a lot going on by then hehehehe.

I'm a bit sad that I won't be seeing NY with xmas stuff and people hanging around in the ice rinks but on the other hand I guess I'll see LIFE in Central Park, as far as I've looked by now there's a lot going on there on summertime.

Then there's Broadway (i'll probably get a ticket) and visiting all those neighbourhoods: Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx. I'll probably come to visit Queens (Yankee Stadium is there I think) and I definetely ruled out Coney Island for this trip ..

I'm also researching on thematic bars and happy hours .. also some restaurants I shouln't miss and I'm definetely going for sushi or any strange foreing cuisine. And yes, the traditional hot dog in Central Park. But moslty I'm exited about the bars hehehehe. I'm guessing u can "happy hour" 24h a day if you mean to.

Then I might take some Film tours and visit some famous film locations ... so, briefly, a LOT of stuff to do there XD! And if for some strange reason I get bored I can make a day trip to Washington or Boston for a joke-price hehehehe. Jussssst looking forward to NY!!!!!!!!!!
